Bird Island is completely surrounded by a very fine sand beach. A relaxed walk along the 5km flat coastline takes about two hours. During the southeast monsoon from May to October an extensive sand bar of 300m emerges due to sand shifting on the most northern point of the island. During the northwest monsoon from November to April this sand bar is reduced to about half its summer length. On the east and south side of the island a protective reef offers excellent snorkelling. | Bird Island is completely surrounded by a very fine sand beach. Green Vouloutye bushes create a rich contrast to the white beach and turquoise ocean. Near the lodge there are benches from where one can sit and observe birds and crabs along the beach. No obstructive deckchairs or umbrellas ruin the natural settings. | Green Vouloutye bushes create a rich contrast to the white beach and turquoise ocean.
